Volatile Analysis Corporation (Volatile) was co-founded by entrepreneur Kathy Malmay Bazemore as part of Cocoon Resources, Inc. and Scientist Dr. Russell Bazemore in February 2007. Volatile Analysis Corporation is headquartered in Huntsville, AL, the city home to the second largest research center in the United States. Dr. Bazemore moved from Chicago to come back to Huntsville, where he grew up, to become a part of the fast developing BioTech industry in Huntsville. After being birthed out of Cocoon, Volatile received early seed funding to help develop early prototypes for breath diagnostics of disease. Volatile quickly partnered with an Alabama Institution, Tuskegee University, on a NASA Project focused on sweet potato bread being baked in space. This work was presented at the ACS conference in New Orleans in Spring 2008. VAC successfully filed for three patents in spring of 2008 focused on absorption technologies for volatile compound capture. In June 2008, the company added Charles H. Manley, Ph.D. a prominent executive research scientist to the board of directors. Volatile in 2009 moved provisional’s to a utility patent and many of their technologies are now patent pending. Volatile has expanded services to product development related to scent technologies and has successfully managed new product delivery through co-development agreement(s). Volatile in 2010 is continuing expansion of both their biotech research & development focus on tools for identifying low trace levels of volatiles related to breath and also their services group focused on analyzing VOC’s and/or product development of new technologies regarding flavor and/or fragrance. Volatile has had presentations at many industry association meetings including ACS (American Chemical Society) and continues to provide support to the local community on projects that relate to analyzing volatiles in water streams. |
